PRIVATE RESIDENTIAL
In recent years, the primary focus of my energies has been domestic clients wishing to extend, rebuild or refurbish their homes, leading them through the process, presenting design options and helping with what to many may be unfamiliar, from the planning system to choosing the right contractor.
LISTED BUILDINGS
As Director of Architecture at Carroll Architects and Surveyors, in the historic setting of Wallingford, I worked on several Listed Buildings and Local Interest Buildings within the Conservation Area, preparing heritage statements on behalf of the practice and even on one occasion successfully getting a building de-listed.
COMMERCIAL ARCHITECTURE
The practice is undertaking an increasing volume of commercial work with projects ranging from large warehouse extensions, new build industrial sheds, change of use, office refurbishment and bespoke work base developments. Where appropriate we’ll team up with other consultants, such as Georgia Burt for interior design, to provide multi-disciplinary services.
SPORTS AND LEISURE ARCHITECTURE
The practice is now working on its third village sports pavilion project with the respective parish council as client. A common thread to these projects is changing demand and the adaptation of the facilities to new purpose and greater flexibility, and the role of grant funding in bringing the projects to fruition.
OTHER ARCHITECTURE
Michael has wide ranging experience, covering most sectors of the industry, gained in over thirty years of practice. The following case studies show a small sample of the projects that he has designed in previous practices, ranging from education and healthcare to affordable housing and housing for older persons.
SUSTAINABLE DESIGN
I have a personal interest in sustainable design and am more than happy to help others willing to do their bit for the climate. Not only have I designed our own house loosely around the Passivhaus Retrofit standard, I have previously also completed several schemes for clients using the Code for Sustainable Homes.
AFFORDABLE HOUSING
As an Associate at Frankham Consultancy I had the role of sector lead for affordable housing, working for several housing associations as well as the City Council on a variety of general needs and schemes for over 55’s. including options appraisals.
RURAL HOUSING
During my time at Frankham Consultancy I was involved with Oxfordshire Rural Housing Partnership, completing more than 12 rural housing schemes, many on rural exception sites, mostly located in towns and villages around the West Oxfordshire and Cherwell Districts.
