Extension in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire

Transformation of 1960’s police house into modern dwelling, Charlbury, Chipping Norton

Located within the conservation area, the proposals doubled the size of the original dwelling, turning the plan upside down to make the most of distant views and sunlight, and facilitating entry from street level.  Our design incorporates double height space with large and small windows offering a variety of interesting vistas.

The extension is constructed in natural stone and timber cladding, the existing external walls will be insulated and overclad in matching timber cladding. From the street the house is one and a half storeys high with narrow windows emulating the local vernacular buildings.

The design is based on the Passivhaus retrofit (EnerPhit) standard with MVHR heat recovery ventilation and retains much of the original structure to reduce embodied carbon.
